Readers of Australian Traveller have named The Ghan trip as Australia’s best train journey for the third year running.
The Ghan runs from Darwin to Adelaide, cutting Australia in half through some of it’s most dramatic landscapes. The three-day journey takes travellers through the Red Centre, stops over in Alice Springs and even includes a cruise down the Katherine Gorge.

It is not only the beautiful scenery that impressed those who travelled on The Ghan, but also their experience inside the train itself. Guests have a choice of accommodation ranging from daynighter seats to The Chairman’s Carriage, an 8 person suite with 4 bedrooms, lounge, private dining room and and private bathrooms.
For those with who have chosen the more budget-friendly Red Service daynighter seats, they can enjoy their meals in the Matilda Cafe. If you are after something a little fancier, the Platinum and Gold Service fares include meals and drinks in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant, a dining car offering a seasonal menu of Australian specialties.
