Travellers coming to Perth should make a point of visiting Scarborough - the most popular beachside suburb in Western Australia. The attraction of swimming and surfing in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean and watching the sun set over the sea is an opportunity too good to miss.
For the sun-loving traveller, this is the place to relax and enjoy life.
Water activities cover the whole gamut of sporting and recreational pursuits, including windsurfing, snorkelling off Trigg Reef, surfing (body, board and boogey) - Scarborough is renowned as having the best waves on the coast for water skiing.
Attractions away from the beach include scenic cycle paths along the coast (bikes can be hired), the spectacular Underwater World (just 10 minutes north of Scarborough), and the romantic and interesting Rottnest Island.
On Rottnest, scuba diving is a must, but take the time to enjoy a game on the tennis courts, taste the many flavours of the restaurants, food halls, and pubs; and dance until dawn at the many discos.
Any trip to the West coast wouldn’t be complete without spending an afternoon/evening sipping a coffee or downing an icy cold drink at one of the many footpath cafes as the sun sets into the western sky.
It truly is a remarkable sight. Many travellers have arrived in Scarborough for a day trip and ended up spending a week or two - that’s the appeal that this laid back spot has on many people. It’s a suburb with a predominantly young and carefree population, who have a friendly and relaxed attitude to life.
The traveller immediately feels this holiday spirit in the air, which usually comes as a welcome relief from the intense pressure of inner-city living. However, despite its relaxed way of life, Scarborough is within close proximity to many of the popular tourist attractions and to the Perth and Fremantle Central Business Districts.
