Burning Man Australia was formed around 2001 as a collaboration between The Burning Man Project and the first Australian Burning Man regional contact. Its the name given to cover the Australian footprint for the Burning Man region which is overseen by the Australian Burning Man Project's regional contacts.

The Burning Man Project is to uphold and manifest the values described in the Ten Principles of Burning Man, specifically:

- Gifting
- Decommodification
- Radical Self-reliance
- Radical Self-expression
- Communal Effort
- Civic Responsibility
- Leaving No Trace
- Participation
- Immediacy
“Burning Man” is understood not as an event, but as referring to a way of life lived consistently with these Ten Principles. The Burning Man Project provides infrastructural tools and frameworks that will allow people to apply the Ten Principles in many communities and spheres of endeavor.
Burning Seed 2013 the fourth Australian regional Burning Man event is happening from Wed 2nd Oct - Tue 8th Oct 2013.
To be staged again at Matong State Forest on the NSW, SA & ACT Labour Day long weekend, in the special forest clearing near Narrandera, in Wiradjuri Country, Southern New South Wales (NSW).
The date is before the harvest and fire risk season. Strict fire conditions will be enforced again and we will keep you up to date with these, as they are negotiated with Forests NSW & the RFS.
